Screened-in-Porch Renovation

The 're-do' of my screened in porch was the last room of the house to get refreshed- a year and 4 months later... Small home renovations has become a hobby of mine- a SLOW and steady hobby of mine. Nonetheless, this room that once housed a hot tub coated in black walls complete with gummed-up peel-n-stick tile flooring, was transformed to my favorite hangout (over a span of 5 slow months!)

I reused the rattan roman shades to save on money- I simply restrung the pulley system and hosed them off.

Christmas Cookies...(Belated Christmas Moments)

The art of baking and decorating butter cookies is a new found tradition at our house, this year is no exception.

Rather than using the traditional red and green sugar sprinkles, Reese found 'decorations' of her own. (Don't worry...she ate it before putting it on the cookie!) Okay, she didn't really find anything, nor did she put 'it' in her mouth, but I thought this would be a good caption!

There was some confusion as to 'what and where' the icing was to be placed...

This particular cookie is as sweet as she can be!

A Tribute to my Mother

Prologue: My mom, has for years, hand stitched Bucella stockings for her entire family. By 'entire family' I mean, her immediate children, their spouses, and their children (her grandchildren). An individual stocking takes mulitple months to complete- I, therefore, assumed Charlie's stocking would have to wait until next Christmas. After all, the rate at which I produce children, it's impossible to keep up! Although I created a space at the mantel for what 'could be,' my mom truely surprised me with what is considered to be the most anticipate Christmas gift of all-time!

The theme for Harrison's party this year was "The Polar Express"- he wore his pj's and slippers to school and thought that was pretty cool!

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving was of particular importance- it was the first time I prepared the entire meal. Well, in essence, I hosted the meal but honestley, Becky (my husband's-brother's- wife,) prepared and cooked the turkey, along with the gravey and sweet potatoes. So I had much needed help in the kitchen, everything was served on time and hot!

Ben and I made this cake ourselves... I am sooooo thankful birthdays only come around once a year (well, in my case, 3 times a year). Although we were satisfied with the results, it took a good 4 hours preping and then pasting in place all SpongeBob's parts.

Let me caveat these photos by saying for the last year of Reese's life I have felt guilty. I really 'dropped the ball' in regard to celebrating her first birthday. On Nov.12th of last year, Ben and I were on a plane home from Mexico where we attended a close friend's wedding. Upon arriving in the late evening in Grand Junction, CO, I was lucky to have a small store bought cake waiting for me- I mean, Reese. (Thanks Kathy!) It was a quiet evening with a gift or two and few balloons. I hadn't planned for any 'party' for that evening, knowing that a subsitute party would follow in Laramie with her cousins, aunts, and uncles, etc. Upon that day's arrival, I came down with a horrible flu bug of some sort. I stayed home in bed while Ben celebrated a joint party for her and Harrison. All I have in memory of this day are photos...(I don't even have these photos anymore because they were on the stolen computer!) So, with all that being said, although it was an intimate family affair, I wanted to do it right! So the family dressed up for photo ops, I purchased a beautiful custom cake that I designed, and a bouquet of balloons. I may have gone overboard with the pics, (these are just a small sampling of what was captured) but I wanted everyone who reads this blog to get the sense you were actually here!

Getting Back to Normal- Part 2 (What is'normal,' anyway?)

Okay, so I haven't updated my blog in quite some time...but I have an excuse! My picture camera broke and our house was burglarized- and so I had no computer on which to blog. (What the robbers didn't know, was that the camera they stole didn't work anyway! (He, He!)) Although, I am very sad that we lost ALL our pictures- they were either on the computer, the external hard drive, or the camera memory stick, itself. The burgulars took all of that, plus 2 TVs and 2 printers! I am put back together again, and Ben and I have since learned our lesson and have made major improvenments to the security and privacy of our home. I dare them to try it again! The silver lining to this dark cloud is my new and improved camera! I have been reading up and testing out all the new bells and whistles! Have a look!

Sorry to those of you who hold your breath daily in anticipation of new posts with candid shots of my kids doing 'the darnedest things' - but I took a 2 month hiatus from blogging. Things were out of the norm while out in Colorado but now the entire family is now back in Georgia (Ben included!) and we're getting back into the swing of things. Harrison started preschool and Friday he will be visiting the fire station and learning fire safety! Reese is adorable as ever and Charlie loves to eat. He keeps getting bigger...and bigger...! The not so good news is that I had an incident that rendered my camera virtually inoperable, but an occasional shot is captured, though it may be blurry or discolored. But there is a silver lining to this cloud... I get a new camera for my birthday (I hope!) Those of you who enjoy my blogging photos, and want to see it continue, can send cash donations to my camera fund! (He He!) As state earlier, Ben did return home safely and there are pics out there to prove it! This past Sunday was Nannie's last weekend visiting Valdosta before heading home to Virginia. Nannie stayed busy helping me with the daily routine of juggling 3 children- consisting of mealtime, bathtime, playtime and bedtime. In our snipets of spare time we managed to enjoy eachother as well!

You may ask yourself, "Self... if both adults are in the photo, who is taking the photo??" (Answer: Harrison!!- Pretty good!)

KIDDIE POOL NUMBER 2

This pool is the 2nd of 3 (and counting), of which I have purchased spanning a 2 month period. This pool only lasted 2 days before succumbing to an air leak- most likely resulting from 2 wild and crazy kids. The first pool was photographed earlier on this blog- that pool was rendered disfigured and deformed by the sun and much too large (a 10' diameter!!) to be regularly filled and dumped each day. So by this rational, the 3rd pool is a charm...right??? The third pool has yet to be photographed but is continuing to hold up nicely to the ways of childhood. I soon will have tried and tested ALL the kiddie pools on the market today. Any favorite kiddie pools out there?????

They say by the third child, one receives less in baby shower gifts, a nearly blank baby book, and little recorded in way of photos or video in regard to significant milestones- (first poopy diaper, first diaper rash, etc...) Charlie almost became part of that infamous statistic when I realized Harrison and Reese's photos far outweighed that of their 3rd brother, by at least 4 to 1. So without further ado...

Isn't he just adorable??? He finally decided to come out of his 'newborn' shell to crack a smile coupled with a true 'belly' laugh which then inevitably lead to hiccups

Picking Blueberries

Another family outing to add to our list of "things to do before Ben leaves for Iraq," was to pick blueberries at a local farm(?) patch(?) field(?) - whatever the correct terminology. Needless to say, I had a vision of family bonding among berries and enjoying the great outdoors...who would have thought this fantasy of family fun would end in crying children. Of course it ends in crying children. It ALWAYS does!! Although these pictures depict a happy family, it was only moments before it 'rained on my parade.' The hot sun, humidity, fruit flies, a starving baby and the failure to realize 'actual time to pick a GALLON of berries' all contributed to everyone's misery.

So the entire family packed up house and home to hit a theme park just 10 miles from home. This park has it all!! Water rides, coasters, petting zoo, aquatic life, concerts...need I go on?? So just before Ben is scheduled to ship off to Iraq, we loaded up the Wagon Queen Family Truckster (National Lampoon's Vacation, anyone?) and attempted a multifaceted theme park with 3 little ones. At 2 months old, not much to report. Charlie sleeps through longer stretches at night, but as a veteran mommy to young kids I know his schedule will change in a blink of an eye. He smiles on occasion but for the most part, he is a serious and skeptical baby. He looks at me often with the one eyebrow raised as though to say, "Do you really think I will fall for the rubber passy this time as opposed to the real deal???" As time progresses I will learn more of his personality traits and I am afraid to say he is a bit like his mommy- high maintenance!

Last week our family of five traveled via plane, (no easy feat) to attend Ben's youngest brother's wedding in Laramie, Wyoming (Congrats Andrew and Jill!). We had a great time visiting with family and friends and at the same time worn out- dividing time among family, friends, schedules, parties, appointments, diaper changes, feedings, naps (the latter three pertained to my children!) and so on... let's just say we're relieved Andrew is the last and final brother of 5 to get married. Let's not forget about the youngest sister, Hannah- she's just starting high school so we have a little time to recoup. Amongst the hustle and bustle I was able to snap a couple of shots of the handsome and distinguished ring bearers (cousin Cody and Harrison) and the adorable and sassy flower girls (cousin Cali and Reese).

It's officially summer down here in Valdosta, at a balmy 96 degrees. I've since bought a swimming pool and a "splash park" sprinkler for the kiddos. Of course the water is too cold for Harrison and Reese but it doesn't stop her from playing the part and looking great!!

I am still trying to figure out the layout of my blogpage...my most recent photos do not post directly under the most current post- so you, (the readers,) will have to navigate through the blogsite to figure what goes where. Anyway, things are real exciting here- my sister flew in for the weekend to meet the new addition...(Charlie,) and for those of you who haven't seen Ashley lately, (but have heard about all her hard work at the gym) I posted a pic of her new hot bod! We hit the town and checked out all the local hot spots in downtown Valdosta. It's rare for this stay-at-home mommy to get out- I usually hang out in my pajamas all day except for the occasional outing to the grocery store.
I am also posting pictures of the kids in their daily routine of going to the local park, aka: the Martin's Backyard Bungalow- playing in their new swimming pool. And I couldn't resist taking a couple of shots of Reese and Harrison playing 'nice'- those photo 'op's' are few and far between.

This is my second attempt at 'posting' on my blog and with a few pointers from a veteran blogger, (my Colorado mom- Kathy) I have revamped a few key elements. Not much to update you on from yesterday, but I thought I would post a few more pics of the kids in their daily routine.

This is my first attempt at 'blogging'-my computer skills don't often go beyond online shopping and the occasional outgoing email, yet I hope to find that posting family photos with witty captions and short narrations will be easier (and faster) here, than through traditional email. So I find myself navigating through this blogging website to create the most adorable user friendly 'blog page'. I will get better at this as time progresses- be patient...
